Fishing on Lake Nasser - Egypt

Nearly all anglers who fish with us will catch their biggest freshwater fish, if this is your first visit to the lake, then the odds of this are largely increased!

The Fish

Nile Perch

Nile PerchThe main species of fish we target is obviously the infamous Nile perch, but lake Nasser holds other very exciting species that will keep you well entertained, you realistically could fish for 24hours a day!

There is an account from Lake Victoria where local fishermen caught an incredible 232kg (516lb) Nile Perch. The biggest recorded Nile Perch from Lake Nasser is 176Kg(382lb). The all tackle world record for Nile Perch was a spectacular fish of 213lb and the second largest was a 210lb Nile Perch. Our largest to date is 202lb caught on the 30lb class.

Nile Perch(Lates niloticus) is also known as Sangara, Mputa, or Capitaine. It is a large-mouthed game fish that grows up to 6ft(1.8m) long and 400lbs(180kg). It is a predator and feeds on other fish. The Nile Perch is the largest freshwater fish in the worlds accessible to anglers.

So conceivably you could hook into a world record sized fish on Lake Nasser, as we know there are an enormous amount of 230lb plus fish in there. Research shows that Nile Perch have a better chance of reaching record sizes in lakes rather than in a river system, there is every indication that there are massive fish still living in Lake Nasser.

Tigerfish

Tigerfish Tigerfish abound in the lake and of the to species the most common is Hydrocynus Forskalli that grows to 7kg(15lb). Tiger Fish are related to the South American Piranha and just one look at their vicious teeth, leaves you in know doubt that they are savage predators.

I think the smaller hook penetrates better and this can be one hell of a fight on light tackle. These average around the 5lb bracket but go as big as 20lb.

These babies are like missiles when you manage to hook into one, they scrap and fly through the air trying their best to get rid of the hook which a lot of the time they do due to the bony mouth with dentures to match, they will take large lures, but the common way to catch them is on the fly.

Vundu Catfish

Vundu Catfish Vundu catfish can get very big, the night fishing for catfish is something else, on a calm night you can literally see them swimming around the boats and shoreline looking for oddments that may be of interest to them, this is the time when we set up the cat rods (uprated carping equ.)We believe that these fish have a major dislike to MONO line, so we use braided line and this works a treat!

About 99.999% of catfish in the lake have never seen pre-pared baits such as pop up boiiles and flavoured luncheon meat, so bring anything you may think will work! If you hook into a 40lb catfish, this will give you one unforgettable fight, customers now are regularly hooking good size catfish, and we have made this a firm part of our trips.

So on your return home, you really can say...

It really was this big

... THE FISH WERE THIS BIG!
